Catholic Family Services of Toronto (CFST) is currently recruiting 2 – 4 individuals to join our Board of Directors to be elected at the Annual Meeting on June 10, 2025.

For more than 100 years CFST has been helping people from all religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds address a variety of life transitions, challenges, and losses to move towards a more fulfilling and independent future. CFST delivers professional and accessible services that strengthen the health, well-being, and safety of individuals, couples and families.

CFST is a non-profit, charitable organization reflecting the Catholic values of compassion and social justice for all members of society. As a leader in the Catholic social service community, CFST works closely with the Archdiocese of Toronto and its parishes, as well as the broader community and social service sector in Toronto.

Responsibilities

CFST Board members are responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership to CFST by:
  • establishing the long-term direction and vision;
  • monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the strategic plan;
  • overseeing the financial health of the organization; and
  • providing business and governance oversight to inform major organizational decisions.
  • Representing CFST with dedication and passion
  • Keeping informed about the Agency operations, programs and services, and its community networks
  • Supporting the fundraising activities of the Agency

We welcome applications from individuals who have experience and expertise in: board governance and leadership, financial management / accounting, human resources, the non-profit sector, public, media or government relations, policy development, leadership in the areas of counselling, mental health, and violence against women programming, or community outreach.

At this time, the Board is in particular need of individuals with expertise in:

  • Fundraising and event planning
  • Current trends in IT/technology applications
  • Legal / compliance
  • PR / Communications

Previous Board experience not a mandatory requirement.

While we welcome applications from individuals with lived experience related to the service areas of the Agency including past clients, we do not accept applications from current CFST clients.

 

The Commitment

Board members are elected for a three-year term, and may hold the office for up to three (3) consecutive terms. During their term(s), Board members are expected to:

  • Attend 8 Board meetings per year
  • Participate in at least one of the Board standing committees
  • Commit to approximately 5 hours per month for meetings and preparation time
