SUMMARY:Understanding Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Subsidies are available \nUNDERSTANDING ABUSE GROUP \nThis is a psycho-educational support group for women who have experienced any\ntype of domestic abuse from an intimate partner (verbal\, emotional/ psychological\,\nfinancial\, physical\, sexual and/or spiritual abuse). We help women understand\nthat they are not to blame for the abuse and that they have choices in their lives. \nPROGRAM GOALS: \nTo ensure women’s safety; help build safety plans.\nTo foster a sense of self worth\, empowerment and control over their lives.\nTo help women understand power and control issues in their relationships. \nGROUP FOCUS: \nTo examine protection and safety issues.\nTo identify the impact of abuse on the self and the family unit.\nTo build a positive self concept.\nTo identify and deal with feelings.\nTo gain strength from others and break isolation.\nTo share and problem solve together. \nUPCOMING DATES: Wednesdays\, June 12 to July 31\, 2024 (8 weeks)\nTIME: 10:00 am – 12:00 noon\nCOST: $30 per session (subsidies may be available on request)\nLOCATION: Online (Note: A working microphone and camera are required.) \nAll applicants are required to have a screening interview and are also required to\nhave their own individual counsellor for additional support. \nFor further information and to register\, speak with \nAngie Slingerland (416) 222-0048 X 226 or Carrie Lau (416) 921-1163 X 2253\ncontact by email at aslinger@staging.cfstoronto.com or clau@staging.cfstoronto.com
