Welcome to CFS

Volunteer Intern Program

Program Description

Catholic Family Services of Toronto (CFST) offers a training program for Individual,
Couple, and Family Therapy that allows prospective therapists a chance to apply theory
to practice. Participants will acquire clinical experience by directly interacting with
clients.

The curriculum includes opportunities for working with individual, couple, and family
clients. When opportunity permits, prospective therapists may assist in facilitating group
programs offered by the agency. Supervised instruction and training is provided by
Registered Social Workers or Registered Psychotherapists. In addition, interns will have
the chance to consult and learn from senior therapists across different theoretical
persuasions. The intern will receive clinical supervision, engage in case discussion in
team meetings, and hold case presentations for colleagues.

Expectations and Commitment

The practicum takes place for one full year from September to August each year.
Prospective therapists are expected to make a one-year commitment, and be available
between 7-21 hours per week during which, the intern will have the opportunity to work
with clients on Intake, in Walk-In, and through our regular counseling services. Interns
are also encouraged to actively engage in other agency activities to understand the
organization’s objectives and goals.

CFST is open for client services from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. In addition, we
also offer Walk-In counseling services on Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm at the
Central Toronto Office and on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the North Toronto
Office.
